Can you tell us about New England Leherein ?

New England Leherein was started in 2001 as a fun-loving dance group by some Boston area choreographers to teach dance classes to anyone interested in performing on stage at cultural events. As a token of appreciation, the participants donated the money which was used towards Gujarat Earthquake relief, Kashmir Earthquake relief, the Indian Ocean Tsunami relief, and supporting nonprofit organizations in India involved in taking care of needy children. While the initial goal of Leherein founders was to pursue the love for dance, their goal soon evolved to making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children.
From these humble beginning, Leherein became a fully-fledged IRS registered non-profit organization in 2007. Since then, the primary source of fundraising has been to provide a 'dabba' (a Hindi word for lunch/dinner box) to the local community four times a year. Many families in the Greater Boston area sign up for the Dabba, and they get delicious meal, prepared with all the love, attention and culinary skills that the Leherein team can provide. Our charity of choice is Abhaalmaya.

What is Abhaalmaya?

Leherein commitment to children took the shape of setting up a home for needy children in Nanded, Maharashtra. The mission was not only to establish a place to provide basic necessities to the needy children, but to enhance their lives by given them good education as well.
Leherein's vision has finally taken shape in the form of Abhaalmaya, a loving home through collaboration with a well-known nonprofit organization in Pune called Investment in Mankind (IIM Trust). Abhaalmaya has 10 children who are provided excellent care and balanced life by highly motivated staff. Children are provided everything they need to succeed in life. Leherein ensures that 100% of all the proceeds are dedicated towards their loving home, Abhaalmaya! Please visit http://www.iimtrust.org/projects.html to find out more.

Could you describe "Team Leherein"?

Leherien today, is group of 13 volunteers, who truly believe that "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". Every member of the team, is dedicated to the noble cause, and works selflessly to cook delicious “Dabba” 4 times a year. A lot goes into this effort. Each “Dabba” starts with planning the menu, sending emails, buying the ingredients, assigning the responsibilities, getting together to cook, packing the Dabbas, and delivering the Dabbas.  The team works tirelessly together to make this happen. There is fun, joy, laughter all along, and above all there is the satisfaction of making a small difference.

Can you tell us about the play you are going to present?

“Sach Aur Sach Ke Siva…” is a two act suspense thriller, an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s famous movie “Witness for the Prosecution” and a translation of the famous Marathi play, 'Khara Sangaycha Tar'.
The plot unfolds in the city of Mumbai, where Nitin Sharma, a young NRI has recently repatriated with his newly wedded wife, Ayesha and is now charged in a first degree murder of Mrs. Wadia, an elderly, lonely lady.  Mumbai’s prominent defense lawyer, Advocate Karnik, takes the case to defend the young individual who is zealously prosecuted by Mumbai High Court’s top prosecutor, Advocate Paranjape.  The drama drives a nail biting suspense, with unexpected twists and turns inside and outside the courtroom.
