The India Society of Worcester held the 50th year of its celebrating India's independence day. Themed  on showcasing Unity in Diversity the event offered slots to each of the 22 states to showcase their culture. The event was held on Saturday, August 15, 2015. Moving from its traditional venue, the event was held in a large hall at the DCU. While the hall featured vendors and tables showcasing the cultures of the different states, there was a performing arts showcase continuously running on the stage.

A floral decorated Mercedes Benz in the hall made for a very festive look, almost a “Bharaat” like look at the entrance. When one entered the hall one was greeted a mele of sounds - from the program on the stage and the din from the crowds that had come to attend the event. Each state was represented both on stage through performing arts and in the stalls with information about the states. The Tamilnadu booth and the Maharashtra booth had gone to great efforts to showcase their states elaborately with “Golu” in the Tamilnadu booth and models of the land in the Maharashtra booth. Vendors in other booths were busy showcasing their wares while food vendors were delighting the crowds with offering of Indian delicacies. A kidzone was set up outside for children to have a great time. The cultural program featured a Brides of India segment that yet again showcased the unity in diversity.

The event certainly moved the celebration up several notches from the previous years and kudos to President Rajiv Dayal, Anjali Arora and entire ISW team for working so hard to create a fabulous event. We look forward to great things in the future from ISW.
