The 50th National Film Awards

The recently announced National Film awards had a few pleasant surprises in store for fans of good cinema. Konkona Sen Sharma was declared the best actress winner for her role as Meenakshi Iyer in Mr. And Mrs. Iyer while Ajay Devgan the Bollywood actor known for his subtle and sensitive portrayal of characters won his award for The Legend of Bhagat Singh.

Veteran actor, Rakhee won best supporting actress award for her role in Shubho Mahurat and Chandrashekhar won the best supporting award for the Tamil film Nanba Nanba.

The best child star awards were given out to Keertana who acted in Kannathil Muthamittal and Shweta Prasad for the Hindi film Makdee.

At lokvani, we were doubly pleased when one of our favorite actor/directors Aparna Sen got a double nod for directing Mr. And Mrs. Iyer. She won the award for best director, her film also bagged The Nargis Dutt Award for National Integration.

The award for most popular film? Hold your breath folks...none other than Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas!!
Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Mondo Meyer Upakhyan (The Tale of a Naughty Girl) won the ‘Best Film’ award.

Udit Narayan was ajudged best singer for crooning Chhote Chhote Sapne in the Hindi film Zindagi Khoobsoorat Hai.

The popular number from Devdas, Dola re Dola was one of the biggest winners of the evening. Choreographer Saroj Khan walked away, deservedly, with her award for Dola re, with Shreya picking up accolades for singing it, fetching Nitin Chandrakant Desa the prize for Art Direction and costume design award for Neeta Lulla, Abbu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

Sharing The Indira Gandhi National Award for the First Film of a Director were Abhijit Chaudhuri and Subhadro Chaudhury for the Bengali films Patal Ghar and Prohor respectively.

Narayan Gangaram Surve, directed by Arun Khopkarwon the best non-feature film award and the best first non-feature of a director award went to Prabhu Radhakrishnan for Paramapatham and Vindo Mankara for Beyond Or Within.
