Press Release
07/02/2015

TiE-Boston is pleased to announce that Bijli Energy, the winning team from TyE-Boston 2015, won first place and $7,500 in prize money at the TyE Global Competition held in Atlanta, GA over the weekend. This year, the annual business plan competition for high school students had 18 regional winners from across the globe compete at the finals.  Bijli Energy is a social enterprise with an idea to implement Micobial Fuel Cells that generate electricity from organic waste in the 25,000 villages in India that don't have access to electricity. The concept also involves developing about 16,500 entrepreneurs in these villages and positively impacting the life of over 10 million people.  Bijli Energy's team members, Navaneeth Pandian, Ethan Oliver, Gopi Rao, Abishek Jeyaseelan and Milind Sundaram, made a passionate presentation and gave compelling answers to the tough questions from a panel of judges. TyE Detroit team won the second prize, TyE Atlanta the third place and TyE Delhi won in the one minute pitch category. Congratulations to team Bijli!

TiE-Boston started the TyE program and this is the tenth year of the competition. During the 6 months long program, TiE charter members mentor the teams, imparting valuable guidance and making connections to relevant advisors in the industry. About 400 high school students have been through the process and several TyE alumni have started companies. If you would like to be notified about the next TyE-Boston program, please contact TiE-Boston at tieadmin@boston.tie.org.
