TiE StartupCon

Cambridge Marriott

Friday, May 1, 2015

TiE-Boston has organized TiECON East for the past 15 years. This year, as part of TiE-Boston’s strategy to increase focus on younger entrepreneurs, they have revamped and revitalized the annual conference, giving it a new name “TiE StartupCon,” to accurately reflect the principal objective of the conference’s mission.

Boston is one of the best cities to turn a great idea into a successful startup.  Its resources for capital, networking, advisement, are bountiful; the key is to be in an environment where one can learn the best ways to find and leverage these resources. TiE StartupCon brings a well-established and respected network while advising attendees on the latest and greatest trends in startup life from successful entrepreneurs who have lived through it themselves.

“Our goal for Tie StartupCon is to help a budding entrepreneur through the experiences of other entrepreneurs.  We have an amazing lineup of speakers and wonderful networking opportunities,” said Anuradha Yadav, Executive Director of TiE-Boston.

The day will feature over sixty expert panelists from noteworthy startups and investment capital firms. Keynote speakers include WeWork cofounder Miguel McKelvey, TripAdvisor CEO Steve Kaufer, and Actifio founder and CEO Ash Ashutosh. The panels will follow three tracks: “Entrepreneur’s Journey,” “Tales from the Startup Trenches,” and “What’s Hot in 2015.”

Throughout the day, attendees will have opportunities to network with like-minded entrepreneurs and influencers. The mentor lunch will allow young entrepreneurs to converse with successful business persons and is suggested for those who wish to seek guidance on their own path to success. There will also be a networking reception and dinner.

The evening will conclude with and panel of Boston’s Forbes 30 under 30, followed by TiE Sharks, TiE-Boston’s own “Shark Tank” event. Over sixty entrepreneurs applied for the competition but only the top four will have the chance to pitch their ventures to a panel of angel investors. Last year, the winning startup received $200,000 in funding on the spot!

“TiE StartupCon brings together the old and the new of TiE-Boston and follows the mission of the TiE organization, by fostering a strong entrepreneurial community in Massachusetts,” said Gaugarin Oliver, President of TiE-Boston.

Additional highlights of this year's conference include:

· Keynotes from the Billion Dollar Club, TripAdvisor & Forbes' 30 under 30

·  Mentor Lunch connects early stage entrepreneurs with mentors who have a track record of building successful businesses.
