Summer Snack Treats For Kids

Apple Twists

Ingredients: 2 large apples
1 can refrigerated quick crescent rolls
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Peel apples. Remove cores and cut apples into quarters. Cut each quarter into half lengthwise. (You should have 16 apple wedges.)
Open refrigerated crescent rolls according to package directions. Unroll dough.
Separate into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle in half lengthwise to make 16 triangles.
Mix cinnamon and sugar in small mixing bowl.
Using small spoon, sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over 16 dough triangles.)
Place one apple wedge on each triangle of dough.
Wrap dough around apple wedge. Squeeze dough together where it meets.
Place dough-wrapped apple wedges on cookie sheet.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees for 10 minutes (or until oven light goes off).
Place cookie sheet in preheated oven. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until dough is brown.
Place on cooling rack for 5 minutes.
Serve warm or cooled.
Makes 16 apple twists.

Banana whorls

Ingredients: 4 bananas
1 12-ounce package chocolate chips

Peel bananas. Cut each banana in half crosswise.
Put popsicle stick into flat cut end of each banana half.
Place bananas on cookie sheet and put into freezer. Freeze until bananas are firm (about 1 hour)
Melt chocolate chips in medium size skillet over low heat. Turn off heat after chocolate chips are melted.
Or put chocolate chips in glass baking dish and heat at low LOW power in the microwave oven for about 1 minute.

Roll frozen bananas in melted chocolate chips until banana is coated with chocolate. After each banana is coated with chocolate, put it back on cookie sheet.
Return chocolate-coated bananas on cookie sheet to freezer. Freeze until chocolate is frozen (about 15-20 minutes).
After chocolate is frozen, wrap each banana in plastic wrap. Keep frozen until time to serve.
Makes 8 chocolate-covered bananas

Celery Special

Ingredients: 2 stalks celery.
4 tablespoons cream cheese.
2 teaspoons milk.
Peanut butter.

Clean celery with vegetable brush. (Turn cold water on; hold celery under water and brush with vegetable brush to remove any dirt.)
Cut each piece of celery crosswise into 4 short pieces.
Put cream cheese into small mixing bowl. Add milk and mix very well with fork.
(Cream cheese should be smooth and spreadable when you are finished.
Fill center of 4 short celery pieces with cream cheese.
Fill center of remaining 4 short celery pieces with peanut butter.
Cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and put in refrigerator until ready to serve. .
Makes 8 celery sticks
