The Dancer’s Pledge By Vision-Aid Is Poised To Dazzle!

Many in Boston will remember the dazzlingly brilliant, sold-out dance productions by Vision-Aid over the past years, including Ramayana, Krishna, Justice of the Anklet, Nine Pathways to Devotion, and the Slaying of the Demons. This year’s show promises to be even bigger and better! The Dancer's Pledge, a stellar dance drama based on the epic Indian tale "Sivagamiyan Sabadam" will be showcased on July 27th in the Roger's center for the Arts in North Andover.

With just over a week left to go, the Vision-Aid team reports that community interest is peaking and tickets are flying – with over 500 tickets sold already. Front row seats are still available for those interested and they are encouraging those who don’t want to miss this unique Broadway style epic dance drama show is to get their tickets soon while they still last, and enjoy a great show while supporting a great cause!

The concept and choreography for this production are by Madurai Muralidaran of Chennai India a renowned dance choreographer who has won critical acclaim for his creations in Bharatanatyam, with over 300 compositions to his credit including his most recent Boston production Slaying of the Demons(2012), which still has audiences in Boston talking

The production is co-produced by Jeyanthi Ghatraju , Ranjani Saigal and Sujatha Meyyappan who have presented many unique productions including Ramayana - A Visual Journey, ;Krishna, Justice of the Anklet, Navrasa Nayika, Nine Pathways to Devotion, and others.

This epic Indian tale is set in the Pallava period and is one of the greatest tributes to the art of Bharatanatyam, sculpture and painting in Indian literature. Sivakami a versatile dancer, is the daughter of a sculptor cum painter , Aayanar. She was in love with Prince Narasimhavarman, the son of the Pallava Emperor Mahendravarman.

The Chalukya king Pulikesi with his capital in Vatapi, invades the Pallava kingdom and lays siege on its capital. However he is defeated and driven back. Frustrated, he returns to his capital after taking Sivakami with him as a prisoner. Sivakami takes a pledge that she will not return to Kanchi until her lover Narasimhavarman has defeated and killed Pulikesi and set fire and destroyed the city of Vatapi.Will Narasimhavarman fulfill the pledge? Will Sivakami return to Kanchi and be united with her love?..Come and see this grand multimedia production to find out!

Proceeds from the event will help Vision-Aid launch a new and exciting program this year – “The Vision-Aid Institute” – a new virtual training initiative that will help Vision-Aid scale up and reach many more blind schools in India.

Geeta Aiyer, Founder and President of Boston Common Asset Management, LLC  and, INDIA New England Woman of the Year (2014)will be the chief guest at the event.
