Mitte Ke Rang, a folk-fusion musical presentation by the Leher team in Boston brought to life some wonderful Bollywood numbers that had strong base in folk music.  The event was a fundraiser for Shankara Eye Foundation, an organization that initiates and drive community eye care activities in India by working with their partner, Sankara Eye Care Institutions, India who operate and manage eight eye care hospitals all over India.

With a goal of saving 200 eyes, the Leher team presented a showcase of a variety of musical pieces drawn from different folks traditions to the accompaniment of a live band. The event was held at the Diamond Middle School on May 11, 2014. Film and folks songs Nain Lad Jai Hai, Ghanan Ghanan, Ekla Chalo Re, Rangeelo Maro Dholna, Nenjinille Kesariya/Chaudhari, Dholi Taro Dhol were followed by an exhibition act from Raganjali School of music. Other numbers, Vajle ke Bara, Ye jo Des - Swades, Bhumbaro, Baisera Beera, Me Dholkara, Chalat Musafir, Challa and Dum a dum mast kalandar was followed by a beautiful rendition of “Maa”. The team changed costumes to suit the mood the presentation. This being close to Mother’s day, it was a fitting tribute to all the mothers. It also was special because the core team member Ragini Jawa was just graduating from medical school and really wanted to express her thanks to her mother Dr. Amal Jawa.  A beautiful visual in the background showed pictures of several community women with their children.

2013 Woman of the Year, Mrs. Poonam Ahluwalia, a social entrepreneur and the founder and director YES and YouthTrade, and Mr. Murali Krishnamurthy, Founder and Executive Chairman of Sankara Eye Foundation addressed the audience and shared their appreciation for the Leher team.
