Sri Shani Dev Prem Pratishtha Celebration At Sree Vijaya Durga Kali Temple

Sree Vijay Durga Kali temple in Burlington, MA, celebrated Sri Shani Dev (Boro Thakur) Prem Pratishtha on Shani Jayanthi, "Tirish Jyesto" which according to the Bangla Calendar fell this past Saturday, the 14th June, 2014.

Sri Shani Dev is one of the Navagraha in the nine primary celestial beings in Hindu astrology. Sri Shani Dev, the son of the Sun God, represents hard work, discipline and he helps his devotees perform their Karmic duties, he is the ultimate judge and his judgment is always impartial.

In Hinduism, it is considered good to propitiate Shani Dev especially during Shani dasa and during Sade-Sati periods. Shani dasa often leads to great obstacles and tribulations in life. Sade Sati is the 7 1/2 year period during which Shani transits the zodiac sign of placement of Moon and one sign on either side of it in one’s horoscope.

By propitiating to Sri Shani Dev, his devotees fulfill their Karma with ease and he grants them success in social, political, spiritual life, career, education, and business. He also bestows long life and relief from illness.

The auspicious ceremony of Prem (Pran) Pratishtha is a Hindu theological term for a ritual of consecration in which the consciousness or power of the deity is brought to inhabit in a murti or icon of that deity. According to Hinduism it is only after this rite is performed that worship may be offered to the murti.

Pandit Bhavani Tejasvi, began the ceremony by invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesh which was followed by Naba Graha puja, Shani Havan, Babatharini Kali Puja & Havan, Prem Chakkshurdaan, Shani Boron, Shani Puja, Pushpaanjali, Boro Thakur Aarti and Shantijal. Sri Vijay Durga Kali temple will perform special Shani Puja every Saturday at 4.00 PM for the benefit of all devotees. Regular Shani Archanas are performed anytime during the temple open hours.
