About RSM
Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) is Newton, MA based after-school math enrichment program. RSM is the oldest and the most respected program with an emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking. Since 1997, thousands of children came to RSM in search of more challenging math program, or to improve their current math level. Most families stayed with us for many years and made RSM an integral part of children's development.
RSM program is based on Russian teaching methodology; it includes and exceeds all the requirements of the U.S. public and private schools and SATI-SATII tests.
RSM is one of the few after-school programs with a complete, continuous K-12 curriculum designed to ensure thorough math education in a logical, sequential and age-appropriate way. RSM’s curriculum is a product of over 13 years of professional development based on current research and the use of the best educational practices around the world.
RSM’s special focus on problem solving and critical thinking is one of the main features of our program. Unlike many tutoring services, RSM takes a long-term fundamental approach to teaching math. Students learn to think mathematically and logically, not just to memorize and follow routines. This is the only way to help a child build a strong foundation for future math and science courses.
One more feature that makes RSM truly unique
is the early introduction of Algebra.
Our 12 years of excellent results concur with multiple studies suggesting that
not only a child’s future aptitude towards math but his/her overall cognitive
development can be greatly influenced by teaching him/her abstract math
concepts starting as early as in the Grade 1. Learning math at an early age is
important as a process that helps to improve a child’s abilities to
interpret, select, and organize sensory information.
Every year RSM students win recognition from Johns Hopkins University Center for
Talented Youth (JH CTY) and receive awards for their high scores in American
Math Competitions ( AMC-8, 10, 12), MOEMS and Math Kangaroo. Our students
consistently demonstrate excellent SAT results: our 11th graders' SAT average is 774/800 and our 7-8th graders'
Johns Hopkins SAT average is 684/800 (compare to Massachusetts average
of 516/800) .
Many of our
graduates who were accepted to Ivy League colleges and prestigious universities.
The best summary of our program's success comes from one of RSM parents: "...RSM teaches kids to think, to make connections between mathematical concepts, to utilize critical thinking and build upon previous concepts to solve new problems".
