The Wild Side of Bollywood
About the Event
“The Wild Side Of Bollywood” showcases the unique, surreal, often psychedelic dance sequences from South Asian fi lms from the 1950’s to the ‘80’s, a time when western styles of rock and funk mixed with Hindustani music met in sequences known as “item numbers” set in cabarets, bars and discos. We’ll take a special look at the actress/dancer “Helen,” who appeared in over 500 fi lms and is beloved throughout the Indian diaspora. Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion that includes Mona Kumar, producer of the MFA’s South Asian film festival. And following that, there will be Indian-themed libations and Bollywood beats. This event is curated by Brother Cleve. To contact him for an interview: brcleve@mindspring.com
