Abstract: Currently, there is an over 25 million strong Indian diaspora present in every continent of the world. The Indian diaspora, with strong cultural moorings, struggles as a group of new immigrants in dealing with values, religion, family and community issues. The US Indian diaspora has built numerous places of worship, and has established itself as a model community in the country, but it lacks in community and educational organizations to support its members. As the second and third generation Indian Americans encounter growing community pains, there is a need to address the community issues in schools, politics, and professional lives. The presentation will include discussion on basic Indian values, culture and traditions, and their portrayal in media and curricula at school and college levels. Special efforts would be made to link India's entry to the US through the New England region, and its implications to define the role of Indian Americans in the current context.
