Seminar on Elements of Western Classical Music and Jazz
Elements of Western Classical Music and Jazz
By
Marc Rossi

Many of us, who like to listen to the Western Symphony Orchestra and Jazz, feel handicapped for the lack of knowledge of basic technical aspects of this beautiful and rich music. For those of us who have some background in Indian Classical Music, often wonder about the similarities and differences between these seemingly different music forms.
This seminar will provide some insight into the basic building blocks of the Western Symphony Orchestra and Jazz music. It will answer the questions such as “The structure and progression of music in a Symphony Orchestra Concert”, “Interplay of the theme, Melody and Harmony”, “What to look for and expect in a concert” and “Similarities and differences between Western Classical Music, Jazz and Indian Classical Music”. This will enable the audience to develop a better understanding and appreciation of this music form. The nature of the seminar will be interactive and questions from the audience are welcome.
