HINDU HERITAGE DAY 2013

Shakti

“Mind-intellect-thought-ego I am not, nor am I ears, tongue, nostrils, or eyes for that matter, I am not the five prime elements either; I am simply the Atman, I am the pure all-pervading consciousness alone.”

The annual Hindu Heritage Day will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 3 pm to 8 pm at Marlboro Middle School in Marlboro, Massachusetts. The focus of this day is on Shakti, the theme will encompass all aspects of Shakti, the primordial cosmic energy - at this level Shakti is the Cosmic mother effortlessly holding trillions of universes in the palm of her hand. This is indicative of the scale and incomprehensiblity of Shakti when it becomes coeval with the Absolute itself. Shakti as the sacred force or empowerment is the divine energy that awakens our consciousness, illumines our thoughts and inspires us on a path of justice and truth. Shakti as the personification of the divine feminine creative power is Mahashakti the mother of the universe, the female who conceives, bears, gives birth to, and nourishes the universe.

This year, as always the HHD program is a reminder of this eternal truth about man’s internal nature. No matter how enveloped we are in avidya (ignorance), where maya obscures the infinite reality and presents the manifold world, we must continuously acknowledge our divine common heritage. From repeated affirmation of one’s true identity, Shivoham, Shivoham; we come to realize that all are One. Apparent differences among men are just that, just apparent. Living in harmony with all others, we live in harmony with our own Selves. Rishi Yajnavalkya proclaims in the “Brhadaranyaka Upanishad, “…not indeed for the love of all is all dear. But, for the love of Self is all dear.”

The HHD event has various activities that caters to all age groups. The popular mehndi application will have dedicated space for the full duration of the program. An informative and enlightening exhibition on Swami Vivekananda currently being designed will be on display. Children can engage in kite flying, face painting various contest booths, picture coloring, and viewing movies especially for children. The cafeteria will serve a complete dinner at a very nominal cost. Freshly made snacks - bhel puri, samosa, chole bhature, and chaat will cater to different food tastes. Chai, lassi, soft drinks, and bottled water will also be available.

A nominal entrance fee of $5 covers all activities being held through the day. There is going to be an assortment of non-profit organizations and cultural schools present to give out information, along with vendors of goods and services with different products geared to cater to Indian taste. Organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, over 40 organizations plan to participate in this year’s mela. At this time, a limited supply of booths remains available. The cost of each booth is $75 with a discounted cost of $50 for non-profit organizations. For booth information, contact Bibek Das at bibek2911@yahoo.com or by telephone at  508-615-1393
