UIA Celebrates Holi

The United India Association of New England Celebrated Holi on Sunday April 7, 2013 in North Andover, MA. The festivities began at 11 am and continued through the afternoon. With colorful fabric décor, Bollywood Grill Restaurant was transformed into a beautiful and colorful private venue for this special occasion. About 200 guests were greeted at the front door with a welcoming "Tikka" with Holi colors. Children at the event were entertained with non-stop craft activities in the "Children’s corner", while the adults could mingle over a cold glass of complimentary drink , traditional "Thandhai" and fill their plates with sumptuous appetizers.
 
The Entertainment program featured numerous talented singers from all over New England singing festive songs to evoke the true spirit of the Holi Celebrations. Nikita Rao Punjabi’s "Bollywood Dance Academy" performed a medley of traditional to modern Radha-Krishna songs, danced exquisitely by six lovely young Radhas and three handsome Krishnas. Then the President, Dr. Seema Arora, gave a speech to welcome the guests and thank all the Committee members and Volunteers that had worked so hard to make this event a success. Committee included Rakashi Chand, Rekha Parliwala, Rashmikant Vyas, Rakesh Soni, Neeta Datta, Nikita Rao, Vikas Selhi, Anil Sood, Surender Kapoor, Parvin Khetarpal, Suresh Gidwani, Kidar Vaid & Jatinder Sharma & Volunteers-Rakesh Dutta, Neil Arora, Serena Arora, Aditya Soni, Serena Chand & Ishita Rao. The singing and dancing program concluded with an interesting scavenger hunt game. Prizes were given to two most colorfully dressed guests.
 
A fabulous lunch was then served.DJ Preetesh lit up the dance floor and called everyone to start the party! And what would a party be without a dhol? The guests were all surprised to hear the sound of the dhol begin from the entrance as a procession went through the restaurant to lead the guests outside to a tented are when it was time to Play Holi!! Everyone began throwing dry color at everywhere and the once ‘prim and proper’ crowd was now red, yellow and green! The playing continued as the dhol played on and the guests were fully "colorful" on a beautiful Sunday afternoon! Desserts were served in the restaurant & in the outdoors. The Committee then handed out traditional ‘Ghujia’ to all the guests. A sweet parting to a great party!
