Two young dance students of Sunanda Narayanan's "Thillai Fine Arts Academy" won laurels for their dance school at the recent Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana.

13-year old, Dhwani Sreenivas, who has been a dance student of Smt. Sunanda  since 2011, won second-place in the Sub-Junior dance category for the 10-14 age group. She was initially shortlisted in round one of the contest as a "Top 5" performer from among 41 participants, and she placed second in the final round of the contest that took place on Sunday April 3rd. Her graceful yet powerful performance of the stately piece "Ananda Natamaduvaar Thillai" for this round was received with great appreciation from the audience at the prestigious venue. In 2015, Dhwani also won the 2nd place in the Nrityotsav dance festival for the solo junior category held in Massachusetts. She is very interested in the arts and trains in Carnatic Vocal music under guru Smt Tara Anand.

10-year old, Divya Rajan, who has been learning under the guidance of Sunanda Narayanan since 2010, was selected to perform the lead role of the child Krishna in Saint Tyagaraja's dance opera "Nowka Charitram" choreographed by Guru Rhadha (Sunanda's Guru). On April 3rd, 2016, it was truly delightful to witness this dance production where Divya shared the stage with well-known Californian dance teachers Sangita Vasudevan, Navia Natarajan, Nirupama Vaidyanathan, and Priya Ramdos. Divya's talent was spotted by Guru Rhadha during a summer workshop in 2015 and she was subsequently selected to perform this demanding, central role. She trained diligently for it with her teacher, Sunanda Narayanan, since November 2015 and rehearsed for two weeks in California with the other artists as well. Divya's expressive and charming delineation of Krishna drew the admiration of the audience and she is now more enthused than ever about pursuing dance seriously.
