UIA Celebrates Diwali

United India Association of New England celebrated Diwali With great vigor and enthusiasm on October 19, 2014 at Oak Hill  School, Newton, MA.The event was attended by a large number of people from diverse age groups, ethnicities and geographic areas truly giving a feel of a festive 'United India'! 

To celebrate the 'Festival of Lights', the venue was beautifully decorated with diyas, lights, murtis , flowers, garlands & other festive decor. 

Program started with Diwali Pujan, Bhajans & Aarti.

After this about 250 enthusiastic performers including kids, teens and adults, presented a colorful and vibrant cultural program that included various forms of dances, skits, music, chorus songs etc. Some of these items were choreographed by well known choreographers from dance schools like Aangikam Academy, Bollywood Dance Academy, Arya International,Trisha Academy, Boston Bhangra, Boston Garba, Mona dance Academy whereas some were choreographed by community members and parents. Program also included a kid's ethnic wear parade and a fashion show by Aalok Fashions.

Trophies, certificates and candies were distributed to the participants.Attractive raffle prizes were drawn and presented to the winner audience.

Indian appetizers & dinner from Bukhara restaurant was available throughout the event.Various vendors  beautifully displayed their clothing, jewelry, henna and other products that added to the festivities!

President of the Association, Dr. Seema Arora, said "Our mission is to promote culture in the community and pass it on to our future generations.With that goal in mind, we celebrate these festivals that bring friends & families of Indian origin together while also teaching our youth the habits of community service."

Then she thanked the committee members, their families, volunteers, participants, parents, choreographers,sponsors, vendors & media promoters.Lifetime achievement awards were given to committee members Jatinder Sharma & Shobha Khetarpal.

The next UIA event is it's very popular yearly New Years Eve party-this year at the grand & beautiful Double Tree Hotel in Danvers, MA.
